The female character showed the audience that she needs to be protected by staying in the digger how ever the male character at the start, is running round jumping and rolling around in the mud as he found a hand in the ditch so him being a man was being adventurous and different and going to solve the mystery by jumping down that ditch and taking the risk.
During the clip, we see multiple different representations of both men and women. At the beginning, the woman in the clip appears to be operating the digger, which is a countertype, as it is odd to see a women operating heavy machinery in film, as it is thought of to me more of a masculine job. However, the man in the same shot is the one doing the digging and getting his hands dirty, which demonstrates the stereotype that men are the one of the two sex's that take up hands on, dirty takes, rather than women. the female character held at gun point at the end of the clip is being controlled and thrown around by the man in the scene, which complies with the idea that men are stronger and are more in control of women. the clip finishes with the same women being saved, and mentioning that she has dirt on her coat. the known stereotype that women care immensely about their fashion and clothing is demonstrated here as the clip comes to an end. At the start of the clip the female character stays inside the digger while the man explores the surroundings. This soon changes with the arrival of the sabre tooth tiger, this causes the man to run in fear threw the bushes of the jungle. The female character has to save which is not a stereotypical portrayal of a female character in tv. She shot the tiger and came to the rescue of the helpless man.
One of the two women represented in this clip is presented in quite a masculine way using a rifle and engaging in dialogue following the main story rather than being represented as something to look at, however they other women is presented in quite a stereotypical way when pushed in to the hay and having a gun aimed at her she complains about her expensive coat rather the situation itself and portrayed as quite manipulative too. The male characters are presented with stereotypical masculine features such as violence and pride as the dog breeder is quick to get angry and grab a gun and the male protagonist is shown to be the leader of the group.
Traditionally we would see the women being in trouble and the man having to help her alternativley the women is in the digger which could be seen as a man's job and the man is running away from the animal who is trying to kill him.
In the shots shown where the man needs saving, the stereotypical representation of men and women in chase scene is subverted. In that, stereotypically it would be the blond woman (damsel in distress) that needed saving yet in this scenario it is the male character.
At the start of the clip the woman is more protected and safe in the digger. At the same time this is a countertop as a woman would not normally be known to operate a digger or heavy machinery. The man is showing masculinity by being dangerous and fearless as he distracts the sabre tooth tiger. The woman shows masculinity by operating a gun which she uses to shoot the tiger. This is not commonly seen in Tv and films because usually it is the male who saves the female but in this clip it was the other way round. The male characters towards the end of a clip aim a gun at the female. She is pushed over in this scene and is shown as stereotypical because she gets annoyed about her expensive coat getting dirty rather than the situation she is in which is dangerous.
The female character in this particular short clip juxtaposes the stereotype that is attached to the representation of women. Even though, women are seen as weak personally I think that the women in this clip have shown the opposite, yet the male characters fit within their own stereotype as they hold guns and seem to be in control of the situation showing the that they are always the dominant sex despise the situation.
The female at the beginning of the scene is more masculine, she operates a digger, which is generally used by a man, and also uses a gun, which isn’t usual as women tend to be more peaceful. You don’t associate women with weaponry. The man in the beginning is less masculine as he runs away from the sabre tooth tiger to save his life, which we understand. However, a man is supposed to be braver, but in this scene, we see a role switch. In this case, we see the woman save the man, instead of it being the opposite.
The man in the shed throws the more female to the ground. He wields a weapon to intimidate her, which shows power and dominance over the helpless female, who seems to be more feminine towards the end as she says “my best coat”, which suggests that she cares more about her look rather than her own life.
At he start of the clip the blonde female character was represented in a good way as when you picture of someone working in a digger you think of a man but she was in it doing a good job. Whereas the male character was telling her when to stop. She also helped fight off the sabre tooth tiger which is another good thing as if it was a bad representation they would have her run away and do nothing. The brunette female character was a bad representation of women as the moment that she waist danger se got scared a fell over instead of defending herself. She wasn't going to fightback instead she let herself get pushed around by the larger male character.
The blonde women is represented in a good way. using a digger is often seen as a mans job yet she was the one in the digger and the man was the one out of it. The man was the one running away from the tiger and she was the one who tried to protect him by firing a gun at it which usually in tv shows and movies its the man who tries to save the women. This shows that she is brave. The brown haired women who had a gun pointed at her by a man was very scared and fell to the ground, she was wearing a dress which showed cleavage and was shown as being weak and scared, this is a bad representation of women. The blonde women and the men come in with weapons to seem threatening to save her. Using guns and showing bravery isn't a stereotypical thing that women do so its showing women in a good way.
The first female character is more masculine than feminine, she operates a vehicle which would usually be associated with a man’s job. She also uses a gun to scare the tiger away from the male character, saving him. In the next scene, the man throws the more feminine woman to the ground and pointed a gun at her, showing more dominance and power, although he also showed aggression which is considered a more masculine attribute.
At the beginning of the scene, we see the women driving the digger which is typically associated with something a man would do, then when the sabretooth tiger appears the man hides in the ditch and begins to run away as the woman fights the sabretooth. When the sabretooth looks like he is going to finally attack the man, the woman comes and has to save the man. After all, that is resolved, they go rescue a woman who is being held at gun point and then the woman carrying a rifle comes in with 2 other men come with her one carrying a gun and the other carrying a shovel and save her.
the first female is clearly represented as the more dominant character as she is operating the digging machine and without her, the male would have surely died
The first women in the clip is shown to being stronger than the other. Using a digger which is usually seen as a mans job (large and powerful machinery) and later firing a gun to save the other man. She is also not shown in a sexualised was wearing jeans boots a top and leather jacket. This makes her a counter type as she the opposite of her stereotype.
Abbie is shown as brave and confident. Her hair is short compared to what women normally have it showing that she is more out going the other woman while also wears masculine clothing on the other hand, cares more about her looks from the use of make up and he deep V neck top which could imply that she wants the attention of others.
This video shows a near equal amount of male and female cast members. in this scene, the women are not seen as a minority, as stereotypes would suggest. They play a major role, as one female character helps fight off a tiger, saving the man. She is a counter type as she does things you would not expect a woman to do, even appears to be braver and more useful than most of the men. a stereotype of a traditional man is there, covered in mud and all rugged, which is watchful to the situation.
When looking at female representation it is clear to see where the women stand amongst the men. For example, Abby the blonde female is in control of a large machine, this highlighting masculine features of her. the short hair and the large leather jacket with her combat boots show a "harder" women. she also has other masculine features, such as her ability to handle weapons and save the man. this is unconventional of the media industry as we are used to seeing in the media. thus making Abby a counter type. However, Jenny the other female tries to use her femininity to get what she wants, her low cut tight dress and her heavily made up face shows a more conventional version of women. This use of her body allows her to create a self given dominance yet all power is removed at the first sign of danger creating the typical weak women or 'Damsel in Destress' we are used to seeing in the media. thus making Jenny a stereotype.
There are two contrasted representations of women within the clip from primeval. The representation of the character Abby as an embodiment of masculinity, her strength and the way in which she is armed within the clip is that of a countertype. In comparison, the character of Jenny is incongruous to the setting by wearing a dress and heels in the middle of a forest. This portrayal emphasises her femininity. She is displayed as a stereotypical female who uses her looks to her advantage.
Firstly, the woman was operating heavy machinery, this is something you would stereotypically associate with men, also the man that is with her runs away when the sabretooth tiger attacks whereas she stays and tries to fight it off making her look more masculine and the man more feminine so she is a countertype. Continuing forward into the scene the man is still running away whilst the woman grabs a gun and tries to shoot the tiger saving the mans life, it is almost as if the roles have been swapped around. However, when we cut to a different shot of a barn, we are introduced to a very sexualised female as she is wearing an expensive coat, a top which exposes her body and a very short skirt with tights, lots of makeup. She also seems more masculine when she tries to take control over the other man by telling him what to do but the man becomes more masculine and more dominant saying no and throwing her to the ground. The man in the pit is also represented as a man you could say, he was getting his hands dirty, he was covered in mud.
There are two polarised portrayals on the representation of women. The first one is Abby, who is represented as a very strong character - perhaps the strongest of them all. She is wearing basic gear which you could see on a man or a woman - and is a countertype. Jenny is the complete opposite, being feminine and very stereotypical towards how women are shown in the media. She uses her appearance to get what she wants - but as soon as the power is switched to the man she backs down defenceless.
The female character showed the audience that she needs to be protected by staying in the digger how ever the male character at the start, is running round jumping and rolling around in the mud as he found a hand in the ditch so him being a man was being adventurous and different and going to solve the mystery by jumping down that ditch and taking the risk.
