How are the following areas used to create a representation of ability?
- Mise-en-Scene
- Cinematography
- Editing
- Sound
Make sure you reference representation in your response – how has it been constructed.
Cinematography - It starts off with a close frame shop of him walking down the hallway showing the isolation in the building or in his heart showing that he has a difficult life. The long shop of the woman and the build show how big the build really is implying that she has freedom and he does not. When he's on the bus you get a medium shop of him with a shallow focus blaring the people behind implying that he is the important character. when walking towards his girlfriends house you get a close frame shot indicating that even though he is out he is still limited and not free. You get a low angle shot of him and his girlfriends mother showing that she is the more dominant character however, he is placed more on the left implying that he is on equal term with her. The 180 degree over the shoulder shots of him and his girlfriend show their happy expressions despite what people are saying.
ReplyDeleteSound - The constant music playing in the background is calm and has a sad vibe to it giving the atmosphere a serious vibe to it. The way he speaks show that he struggles to pronounce words correctly making it hard for people to understand as shown when he talks to the bus ticket guy. the giggle the girl shows indicates that she is happy with having the baby on the other hand, the nurse's tone of voice implies that she doesn't agree with what is happening.
mise-en-scence
ReplyDelete*The dialogue between the bus driver the male character sat on the bus, the bus driver speaks to the male character as if he is speaking down to him so that must show that the male character is not as a high class to what was shown at the start of the clip, As at the start of the clip he is shown in a nice high class house and now the contrast from the start to now, it as though the bus driver is towering over the character which shows he is being spoken down too.
cinematography
*the director has used a long shot to represent the disabled character in a way the character is struggling to walk down the enclosed walled corridors, it shows he is trapped in this situation where he knows that people don't think it is right for these two characters to have this baby together he is trapped in a kind of situation where cinematography is showing he is trapped in between these two walls.
TO BE FINISHED
• Seem to be in a pitiful state- normal, everyday actions seem to have a barrier put in front of them just due to their disability
ReplyDelete• Another example of this is the cane the man uses to walk, it looks extremely difficult, when it is something that should be easy.
• Sound: During the whole of the short, a theme with a distinctive lack of happiness plays the whole time.
• Character: Characters seem to be resentful and repelled by him.
The beginning shows a disabled man walking down a dull corridor, this could show that he is depressed and that he feels trapped as he’s walking down a thin corridor. He is in a disabled home which shows that he can’t look after himself and is dependent on other people. When he’s listening into a conversation by a door there close up shot of his face helping to show his emotion, he seems to look emotional after hearing that his girlfriend is pregnant. Getting on the bus to go and see his girlfriend shows that he is trying to be independent. When the disabled man is on the bus the women in the background is staring at him, almost looking down on his as if she is judging him for his disability. Although whilst on the bus the fare collector doesn’t understand the disabled man so he has to show him a piece of paper to explain what he means which is showing how his disability can affect him. The disabled man has a girlfriend who has down syndrome, this shows that even though they are disabled they can still find love and be happy. His girlfriend’s mother doesn’t seem to like him because of the harsh tone of her voice when she talks to him.
